Application

To shield circuits from too much current, small circuit breakers use bimetal strips. Heating a bimetal strip with a coil of wire causes it to bend and work a linkage that releases a contact that is actuated by a spring. When the bimetal strip has cooled, this can be reset to restart the circuit. To translate a temperature change into mechanical displacement, a bimetallic strip is employed.
